Idea stage to seed

Monthly, A Few Hours

Product Advisor Retainer

A standing monthly arrangement: office hours you can bring anything to, a recurring look at the roadmap, async input when decisions come up between sessions, and a second opinion on product hires. The lightest possible way to have experienced product judgment available, sized for teams that are not ready to buy an engagement.

Book a Call

The Problem

I don't need a hire. I need someone senior to think with, on a regular cadence.

Is this you?

This engagement fits if

You make product calls alone and have nobody senior to check your reasoning against
The decisions that stall you are frequent and small rather than rare and large
You are pre-seed or seed and a fractional lead is more than you need right now
You want continuity, not a one-off project that ends and takes its context with it
You are about to interview product candidates and want someone who has hired them before

What You Get

Deliverables

01

Standing Office Hours

A recurring monthly session you set the agenda for. Roadmap, a specific decision, a hire, a customer signal you cannot read, or whatever is genuinely on top.

02

Roadmap & Priority Review

A regular outside read on what you are building and in what order, with the tradeoffs you may be too close to see named plainly.

03

Async Decision Support

A direct line between sessions for the decisions that will not wait. Most product questions need twenty minutes and context, not a meeting.

04

Hiring Input

Help scoping product roles, reviewing candidates, and structuring interviews, from someone who has run those hires and seen them go wrong.

05

Continuity

The compounding part. By month three the context is already there, so the conversations start where the last one ended instead of at the beginning.

After We're Done

Expected Outcomes

  • Faster product decisions with less second-guessing after the fact
  • A regular outside check on direction before it drifts far enough to be expensive
  • Better product hires, scoped and interviewed with help
  • Fewer avoidable mistakes, caught in a monthly session rather than a retrospective
  • A senior product voice available without adding headcount

How It Runs

The process

  1. 01

    Orientation

A longer first session on the business, the product, the team, and the decisions in front of you, so later sessions can skip the preamble.

  2. 02

    Monthly cadence

Standing office hours plus async access between them. You bring the agenda, which keeps the time pointed at what is actually pressing.

  3. 03

    Periodic reset

Every few months, a step back from the immediate decisions to check that the direction still holds and the cadence is still the right one.

FAQ

Common questions

How is a retainer different from a fractional CPO engagement?

+

Depth of involvement. A retainer is a few hours a month, advisory, and you own every decision. A fractional CPO is one to two days a week, embedded in your team's meetings, and accountable for product outcomes. The retainer is the right shape when you want judgment available. The fractional engagement is right when you need someone to actually run the function.

What can I bring to office hours?

+

Anything product-adjacent: prioritization, a pricing question, a hire, a churn pattern you cannot explain, how to structure a discovery round, whether a customer request is a real signal. You set the agenda, which is what keeps the time useful.

Is there a minimum commitment?

+

A three-month minimum, for a practical reason rather than a commercial one: month one is mostly context loading and the value compounds from there. Judging the arrangement on a single session would be judging the wrong thing.

Can we scale up later?

+

Yes, and the transition is straightforward because the context already exists. Retainers commonly grow into a sprint or a fractional engagement when the need gets heavier. Plenty stay retainers for years, which is a perfectly good outcome.
